Welcome to Zen Toronto and the Mountain Gate Sitting Group
The Mountain Gate Sitting Group is a community of individuals committed to the practice of Zen Buddhism serving the Greater Toronto Area. We offer an introduction to Zen practice, as well as support and resources for one’s journey on the path.
Zen Practice
“Entering through the Gates” means we are entering into the practice and realization of Shakyamuni Buddha over two thousand years ago.
Zen practice is not a “belief” or “philosophy” or “religion”; it is a practice that requires us to revisit and revise our assumptions and beliefs around the way we perceive the world and our place in it.
Zen practice opens a way for us to live with greater clarity and joy.
Teachings
We follow the teachings of the Mountain and Rivers Order headed by MRO Abbot and teacher Geoffrey Shugen Arnold Roshi, in direct lineage of Taizan Maezumi Roshi and John Daido Loori.
Schedule
For this summer we meet at 7:30 AM on the first Sunday of each month in Oakville. We sit three rounds of 30 minutes with five minutes of kinhin (walking meditation) in between rounds. Tea is offered afterwards. Rides from/to Toronto available.
